Description
If you’re looking for a fabric that makes an entrance, this is it.
This beautiful ex designer deadstock fabric was originally created for one of Zara’s most talked-about dresses, and it’s easy to see why (I have included photos of the Zara dress).
Rich olive green is one of this season’s standout colours, while tassels continue to be a huge fashion trend. Combined together, they create a fabric that’s effortlessly glamorous with incredible movement.
The base is a lightweight olive crêpe, covered with rows of fine tassels that run parallel to the selvedge. Woven through the tassels are delicate polyester sequins which catch the light beautifully, creating a subtle shimmer rather than an overpowering sparkle. The sequins are extremely lightweight, but because there are so many tassels, the finished fabric has a satisfying weight and wonderful swish as it moves.
It instantly brings to mind the glamour of 1920s flapper dresses, yet feels completely modern thanks to the contemporary olive colourway.
Because the fabric does all the hard work, it lends itself perfectly to simple, clean-lined patterns. A classic shift dress, camisole dress or elegant shell top will allow the tassels to take centre stage, while a pencil skirt paired with a black camisole for Summer or a fine black cashmere jumper in Winter would look incredibly chic. It would also make spectacular jackets, waistcoats, trousers, playsuits or statement skirts, and is an inspired choice for weddings, parties, festivals, Christmas, New Year and any special occasion where you want something a little different.
The fabric measures 150cm wide, although the tasselled, embellished section measures approximately 110cm in width, with plain crêpe forming the remaining width. This is worth bearing in mind when planning your pattern layout.
Elegant, eye-catching and full of movement, this is one of those rare fabrics that needs very little styling to create something truly unforgettable.
