Boiled wool is a type of felted wool. It’s primarily used for making coats, jackets, hats etc
Boiled wool fabric is created by knitted 100% wool yarns to create a fabric of uniform thickness. The fabric then undergoes a boil wash which agitates the fibres and causes shrinkage and felting. The result is a tighter and denser material that is up to 50% smaller in all directions than the pre-felted fabric.
As boiled wool has been pre shrunk, you can leave edges and seams unfinished should you desire. This can be an attractive feature for many garments.
