Description
This is a really special deadstock cotton poplin from a well-known, high-end American designer famed for his nautical prints. I’ll be completely honest — this fabric was an absolute challenge to photograph, but in real life it’s a beautiful muted royal blue, with the tiniest café-stone anchors scattered across the surface. Each anchor is delicately drawn, just around a centimetre in size, with fine line details, tiny bubbles and a soft chain motif that gives the print real charm and depth.
Originally used by the designer for shirts and shorts, I can see this fabric shining in so many handmade garments — dresses, blouses, shirts, skirts, summer shorts, or even a sweet little romper or jumpsuit. The cotton poplin has a little more substance than a lawn, with a smooth, luxurious feel that’s a joy to work with.
It sews beautifully, presses crisply, and holds its shape well, making it perfect for neat button plackets, collars and cuffs. That gentle structure also means it’s ideal for adding volume — think puff sleeves, gathers, tiers and softly sculpted skirts.
A truly versatile and characterful fabric, and a lovely opportunity to work with something a little bit special.
