A beautifully soft, fine cotton needlecord with a luxurious feel – a fabulous fabric for Autumn and Winter dressmaking.
This is a 21-wale needlecord, meaning there are 21 individual ribs, or ‘wales’, within every inch of fabric. The higher the wale count, the finer the cord, giving this fabric its beautifully fine texture and soft handle rather than the heavier, chunkier feel you might traditionally associate with corduroy.
At 150gsm, it strikes a lovely balance. It has enough body to give your garment a little structure, while remaining soft, comfortable and light enough for a really wide variety of dressmaking projects.
This is where fine needlecord really comes into its own for the cooler months. It gives you the opportunity to make many of the garment styles you might otherwise sew in lighter-weight fabrics, but with a little more substance and warmth for Autumn and Winter. Think tops, shirts and blouses as well as dresses, skirts, pinafores and trousers, through to lightweight jackets and overshirts.
Being 100% cotton, it’s breathable and comfortable to wear, while that fine corded surface gives it a little extra warmth and substance – cosy without feeling bulky or overly heavy.
The designs are digitally printed, allowing for beautifully crisp detail and excellent definition against the fine needlecord texture.
It’s also a lovely fabric for children’s clothing and can be used for crafting and bag making too – think tote bags, project bags, pouches and accessories, with interfacing or wadding added where a little more structure is required.
