Broderie anglaise (French, “English embroidery”) is a whitework needlework technique incorporating features of embroidery, cutwork and needle lace that became associated with England, due to its popularity there in the 19th century.

This fine cotton lawn has a pretty cutwork and embroidery pattern in a delightful almond shape.
I have included photos of the fabric with my pale blue table and a cerise pink cutting mat underneath the fabric, so that you can see how a contrast lining may alter the appearance of the fabric.
